The Poetically Impaired
by Jim Grisham circa 1996
My generous teacher
let me tell you
of my lack of poetic skill
The world around
makes the poet respected
and leaves the poetically impaired
unprotected
I wish I could write with the masters
and share the visions
that make them so great
even if they never went on a date
But until I learn to sit and write
through a thousand and one poems
I must regret, that,
I will forever be, poetically impaired.
