VM testing on Qubes OS
Initial questions
- [ _ ] Is it possible to create VM 'snapshots' like in Hyper-V, VirtualBox, VMWare Desktop, etc.?
- [ _ ] Is there a pre-built 'lightweight' image (or instructions) for using RemoteApps with Windows // Windows Server?
- [ _ ] If yes, then how?
- [ _ ] What limitations, if any, should I be aware of?
- [ _ ] What limitations, if any, should I be aware of?
- [ _ ] If no, are there any workarounds?
- [ _ ] If yes, then how?
- [ _ ] How exactly do I create a Windows 'Qube'? (make sure to record 'lessons learned'!)
- [ _ ] Are there instructions on creating a 'minimal' Windows for use in a VM? (I think that the 'enterprise' version might turn off all telemetry by default??)
- [ _ ] How can I (e.g. via group policy or an installation or startup script) disable drive indexing, Windows Defender, and other 'resource hogs'?
- [ _ ] Are there instructions on creating a 'minimal' Windows for use in a VM? (I think that the 'enterprise' version might turn off all telemetry by default??)
- [ _ ] Can I boot with PXE or NetBoot?
- [ _ ] Can I load network filesystems (e.g. NFS or iSCSI/SAN)
- [ _ ] If so, how? What are the limitations?
- [ _ ] Where should I store installers and original '.iso' images?
- [ _ ] How exactly do I boot a VM/'Qube' from a physical disk partition?
- [ _ ] Can I run a boot manager on the physical machine hosting 'Qubes OS'? (i.e. so I could choose to boot directly into Windows or macOS at boot time, or even boot via PXE/iPXE)
- [ _ ] If yes, then how?
- [ _ ] If yes, then how?
- [ _ ] How to adjust RDP resolution when connecting from Qubes OS to Windows (i.e. using 'Connections' from GNOME)

- [ _ ] Which Microsoft apps work on Linux today?
- Just Edge, officially?
- Edge

- Just Edge, officially?
- Do a quick search to see if there is a native Linux outliner
- OPMLv2 import/export would be a plus
- Check out this list of apps (not updated since June 2022) that use OPML: http://opml.org/compatibleApps.opml
- (based up this list of Bike Compatible Apps)
- Check out this list of apps (not updated since June 2022) that use OPML: http://opml.org/compatibleApps.opml
- Having a GUI as an option would be ideal.
- Helpful for copying / pasting text from web browsers and other GUI apps (as copying into text consoles can be challenging at times, especially on unfamiliar systems)
- Does OneNote work on Linux?
- Try emacs org-mode and write down my initial impressions.
- OPMLv2 import/export would be a plus
- Is there a 'collapsing text' plugin / extension for MediaWiki? (using JavaScript if necessary, but ideally using the standard HTML5 'Summary' and 'Details' tags)
- Is there an outlining plugin for Etherpad (i.e. OPML export)?
- Why shouldn't I just use Drummer??
- Install VisualEditor on this site (so I can type outlines and see previews at the same time)
- [ _ ] Once installed, can I toggle between editors 'on-the-fly' (i.e. when I have un-saved content, or not)? If I have to go to preferences each time, is there any way to automate that? (If not, I should at least be able to put a link to preferences in the sidebar.)
- [ _ ] Is there any easy way to copy formatted text out of an Etherpad window (without having to 'export' to a file)? (e.g., I would like to be able to copy/paste a bulleted or numbered list between Etherpad and MS Word or other GUI programs)
- Note: Etherpad allows copying its particular format of rich text between browser windows... I should see what format it is putting on the clipboard, and how could access that (I may need a 'helper program' to modify the clipboard')
- Search for macOS and Windows apps that can read and modify the clipboard (and/or perform other actions, such as running an external scripts or posting data to a database or a website) based on the contents (i.e. the format(s) of the data, as well as the data itself) and other factors (e.g. time of day, system username, screen resolution, front-most app, list of all running apps, etc.)'
- Create a converter (or find one I can re-purpose) between my various note-taking apps (see below for related context)
- Start with the currently-active sources:
- MediaWiki
- EtherPad
- WikidPad
- Opal / Drummer (i.e. OPML v1 / OPML v2)
- I can keep content in its original source, but I should have a 'meta-archive' of everything...
- It least at first, perhaps this way I don't have to 'round-trip' every single piece of metadata, but ideally exporting and then re-importing a 'file' should result in the exact same state as doing nothing at all.

- Think about all the ways I try to store information.
- Break them down (i.e. identify motivations, constraints, etc. -- _why_ am I using a particular method, especially if it is a 'non-optimal' one) and try to optimize a framework for me to use going forward.
- What is the optimal markup I should use for writing (in general)? (e.g. 'plain text', 'plain text' with control codes, ASCIIDOC, seText, Markdown, HTML, et. al.) (Note: wikitext is too slow / verbose; the markup I use for typing / editing does not to be the same that is used for saving or displaying that data)
- [ _ ] Can I write a program to use extra keys or shortcuts to auto-markup text (e.g. by typing the control code for 'GS'
- [ _ ] Can I write a program to use extra keys or shortcuts to auto-markup text (e.g. by typing the control code for 'GS'
- Examples:
- Hypertext / rich text: MediaWiki, WikidPad, iCloud Notes, OneNote, Evernote, e-mail
- Outlines: WikidPad, Drummer, Opal
- Plain text: Text files, database fields, e-mail, ...
- Propitiatory: Stickies (digital; Mac or Windows) / MS Word / Nisus / Apple Pages / InDesign / QXP / ...
- Lists: voice-assistant created lists, saved lists in apps / on websites (e.g. Amazon shopping, Kindle / Libby / O'Reilly / etc.)
- Hybrids: MS To Do, MS Lists, ...
- Other:
- printed notes (paper, journals, notecards)
- photos (both of objects and of content, e.g. on posters or whiteboards)
- scanned documents (with or without OCR; how to attach personal notes and/or to 'highlight'/'clip' important information to find later ... see Tropy for an example)
- voice notes (iOS, tapes, digital recorders, voicemails, etc.)
- documents such as this one!
- Considerations: date created / modified, order of creation, finding previous ideas (stop duplicating effort), searching for former or related content, backups / disaster recovery, access from mobile and desktop computers, access from voice assistants, sharing, privacy, data portability (including, e.g., "how do I plan on accessing this in 25 years")

So let's do the most complicated means to get what i want: use quemu and a virtual i386 environment on the ARM arcitecture of the raspberry pi to get scanimage to work with the original brother scanner drivers
